Inspired by the iconic banned Air Jordan 1, a black and red colorway that debuted in 1985 which violated the league’s uniform policy, earning a stern letter from league officials and generating a $5,000 fine each time the shoes were worn on court — the shoe essentially represented the spirit that MJ brought to the basketball court by being so different.
In terms of its design, the new AJ 31 mimics the 1’s profile, although sporting a first-of-its-kind flyweave and leather upper. Iconic Jordan elements such as the original Wings logo and a subtle Swoosh which has not been seen on a Jordan shoe since the AJ 1, has been implemented alongside a Jumpman logo.
