Nike SB Dunk Pro Low Doernbecher Joey Bates

Nike has introduced its annual Doernbecher collection designed by six young patients of the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Oregon. One of the six styles is this Nike SB Dunk Pro Low Doernbecher designed by 12-year-old patient Joey Bates. Joey suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease that makes his body weaker, but what makes him happy is what inspired this unique iteration of the silhouette. The shoe takes on a green, yellow and metallic gold color scheme as a nod to his favorite athlete, Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers. The model also features Matthews’ number, his desire to be a fighter pilot and love of chicken with a motif on the heels. The American flag is also seen on the tongues, along with Joey Bates’ name embroidered on the heel tabs, while an icy translucent outsole tops it off.
