A popular Japanese food item serves as the inspiration for this new colorway of the Nike Air Max 90 dubbed “Rice Ball.” This Nike Air Max 90 is inspired by Onigiri, also known as o-musubi, nigirimeshi, or rice ball, a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylindrical shapes and often wrapped in nori.
The sneaker starts off with a predominantly grey upper meant to resemble seaweed with similar mudguards that are meant to mimic the look of the plastic wrapper. Aqua Blue and red accents are then added on the various branding throughout the shoe along with “PULL 1” written on the pull tabs on the tongue and laces, and special tongue tags reminiscent of the packaging. Finishing details include white rice graphic insoles, a white midsole with a blue Air Max unit, and special icy blue rubber outsoles.
